FROM THE AUTHOR
Forty-five years an alcoholic, I was at a crossroads. I was soon to lose my marriage, lose my career and quite possibly my freedom. So I made a choice, I enrolled in a 90-day addiction recovery program.
After eight days in detox, I was released into the general population. Alone in a strange land, something wonderful happened. My mind began filling with poetry. Nine days sober and I’m a poet? It’s crazy! But it didn’t stop. I wrote, and I wrote, and I surrendered to my program. I let my rehabilitation happen and I chronicled the entire journey.
This collection is the result. Poems and prose that speak to every thought, emotion and concern one must face in the quest to get help. This unusual form of journaling got me through and I truly believe it will help others in their journey.
Parents, friends and relatives of those bravely trying to find their way, will benefit. These writings will help with the feelings one can expect to experience in recovery. Some are funny, some are dark and cautionary but they are all real.
It is my hope that you can learn from these Writes and be inspired to create your own unique writing style. Make your own mark. I wish you well on this most important endeavor. Surrender and let yourself be helped.

READERS’ REVIEWS & THOUGHTS
Please read Seekers And Fools, it is a superb collection of poetry, prose, and parable.
Mr. Redmiles is one of the most tangible poets and he has a way of really placing a person inside his skin as he makes his journey through recovery.
When I read this collection I felt like I was looking outward from his perspective when reading his work. It is very comforting at times. Sometimes it is disturbing especially since I am not a guy, but all in all, it is a worthwhile experience!
His collection of poetry is a must read for anyone ever battling with depression, anxiety or dealing with any substance/addiction issues. It is additionally great for their family and friends. Along with helping those affected, this book has countless beautiful works that seem to capture emotions and the landscapes of feelings that are far deeper than just the ride of addiction and affliction.

Seekers And Fools – is funny, raw, insightful, painful, and the best book of poetry I have ever read! I would give it my utmost praise and review. I respect the author immensely and he has provided something that has been gravely missing from poetry which is honesty and perspective from people who live in this era.

A poetic journey for the “Seekers and Fools” in each of us!
While the shortest distance between two lines may well be a straight line, Gary L. Redmiles reminds us that life is full of curves and winding roads–and we ought not, therefore, be “driving under the influence.” This is not stuffed shirt unapproachable poetry and prose. This is thoughtful, sometimes painful, often witty, unabashedly real poetry that chronicles the author’s addiction, his transformative stay in rehab and his re-entry into a life unblurred by alcohol dependence. In the book’s first poem “PUT IT BEHIND,”–the author sets the tone and draws the reader in: “Here are the learned scholars–Well intentioned all–There are 98.6 degrees–In frames upon their wall…” As the famous movie line goes he “Had me at hello.” I wish this book could be handed out to all who endure the pain of addiction–the addict, the family, the friends, the enablers, the professionals, the cops on the beat! There are observations and life lessons in “Seekers and Fools” not found in a Tweet or a “sound-bite.” Highly recommended! Congratulations to Mr. Redmiles who may have entered rehab broken but who emerged with humble insight each of us can learn from!
